Books that I have read that deal with the passivity of my heart were: "The Silence of Adam," "Tender Warrior" & "Wild At Heart" and many more. For me, I have always live in fear, insecurity and later on passivity ever since i could remember. It was the three and a half years at Moody Graduate School that the Lord began to call me out of that gloomy state. Fear, insecurity and passivity is really about 'ME' the 'SELF' and 'PRIDE'... Long story short, I still struggle with it from time to time. But, having seen many godly and courageous missionaries, professors, roommates, and friends on Moody campus, it encouraged me to live for Jesus...

It is rather emblematic of our society to see a group of people stand around heaping praise on a young man who lost his life and try as they may to explain that he died doing what he loved without even the mention of what happens next with Heath. I know that I should not expect a bunch of people in Hollywood to think of life after death, but it was like the 800 pound gorilla in the room escaped notice or was ignored because written on each one of our hearts at a funeral is this fact..... I wonder where they will spend eternity.

This is really good pastor Tony; I like you "hate" when my wife is gone for an extended time, and would encourage men to look at their own marriage and see if the same attachment is in their marriage or if they are happy to have "alone" time. If the answer is they are happy being alone then they may be heading down that all to common road that leads to divorce. Make a new commitment to confirm an old one, honor and cherish until death do us part.

you ever hear that at the end of the world when jesus comes to judge the living and the dead, he's absolving sins, and letting people into heaven, and then he says, 'where's judas'? i think it has something to do with that. ala st. peter looking for the guy that used to rule the world because jesus sent him to. And although he know's jesus would forgive him, he feels that he 'know's' his name would be called, but feels that he is unworthy, and can't come to be accepted. (even in the song, he sounds sort of melancholy to admit 'i know st.peter will call my name').

I just know I'd like to get one of their drums from the violet hill video! Tony, I think you're awesome and that, even though this quote was in a different context, many people believe in the back of their minds Peter at the gates and satan with his pointy tail and pitchfork. These cases both set up false images. Satan doesn't rule over hell. He rules over the earth (read Ephesians) and all were at one time even empowered by him, though we Christians now are empowered by the Holy Spirit.
People live with these images in their mind and never seek a true, Biblical doctrine of Heaven and Hell. Most importantly, God is the one in control. People do deify Peter ( Eastern Orthodoxy and Catholicism) and give Satan too much credit. I'm fully behind you with the call the "get it right".

Hey Chris,

Thanks for your thoughts. I wrote this article on June 6th before the album came out and before I had access to the booklet lyrics. I agree with what you said.

I somehow feel urged to leave you a message here, as I think your judgement on "Viva la vida" is based on a misinterpretation.

It may not be obvious on the first glance, but the first person in the song is not meant to be Chris Martin, but King Henry VIII, whom the song is dedicated to.

And even though I also heard "Saint Peter will call my name" the album booklet lyrics read "Saint Peter won't call my name"

So in the light of the slogan above: Judge not lest you are Judge Judy ;)

Best wishes
Chris
